Kevin Arturo Gomezlizarraga, who is completing his first year of study at University of Oregon School of Law, has been designated the recipient of the OWLS Foundation grant supporting a summer internship at Legal Aid Services of Oregon. Kevin is a reserve officer in the United State Marine Corps. His undergraduate studies in Political Science were at Mesa College, San Diego, and University of California San Diego. He hopes to use his education and experience for the betterment of vulnerable populations who need a voice that understands their plights. We are delighted that Oregon Law student Aleesha Kazi has been chosen by Legal Aid Services of Oregon (LASO) as their summer intern supported by the generous donations of contributors to the Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation. Aleesha is a 2021 cum laude graduate of Willamette University, where she majored in Politics, Policy, Law & Ethics, with a minor in Philosophy. Armonica Law Student Grant recipients named for 2021
Congratulations to those students who are recipients of the Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation’s Armonica Law Student Grant for the 2021-22 academic year! They are Neal Alnajran (Lewis & Clark), Jessica Charles (Willamette), Neeka Dabiri (Lewis & Clark), Kristen Holtvoigt (Lewis & Clark), Kaitlyn Lindaman (University of Oregon), and Halie Quiring (University of Oregon). Each grantee will be matched with a mentor (a judge or senior attorney) and will receive a monetary award of $2,000 for law school expenses. The Armonica Law Student Grant is named for the late Armonica Gilford, an active board member of Oregon Women Lawyers and the Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation, and a treasured member of the wider legal community. Queen Rynders, a Lewis & Clark law student, has been named a 2020 Multnomah Bar Association Fellow, supported by the Oregon Women Lawyers Foundation for an assignment this summer with Legal Aid Services of Oregon. Parents who are in their final year of law school and plan to sit for the February 2020 Oregon bar exam should consider applying for the Vernellia R. Randall Bar Exam Grant. The deadline to apply has been extended to October 18. The bar exam grant is named in honor of Vernellia R. Randall, who has made a lasting contribution to the Foundation and is playing a significant role in the efforts to give women and minorities greater access to the justice system. This grant is available to parents with children under the age of 18. The Foundation will heavily consider the ages and number of children of the applicant with special consideration to students with children under the age of 6 or with special needs, and to those who are single custodial parents.
